Which Water Filter Fits My Samsung Fridge?
Last updated 2026-06-11
Most modern Samsung fridges use the DA29-00020B filter, also sold as HAF-CIN, a slim twist-in cartridge. Older side-by-side models before about 2012 use the shorter, stubbier DA29-00003G. Some models use an external inline DA2010CB. Match by your fridge model number to be sure.
How do I find my Samsung fridge model number?
Open the fridge and look for a sticker on the inside wall, usually near the top or along the side near the salad drawer. The model number is the long code beginning with letters such as RF, RS or RB. Note it down exactly, as it is the only reliable way to match the correct filter.
The rating plate inside the fridge cabinet carries both the model number and the serial number. The model number is the one you want for matching parts, for example RF28HMEDBSR or RS25J500DSR. It may also appear on the original paperwork. The serial number is different and is not used for matching filters.
What are the main Samsung water filter families?
Samsung uses a small number of filter families. The DA29-00020B (HAF-CIN) is the common slim internal cartridge on most fridges from 2012 onward. The DA29-00003G is the older short, fat internal filter. The DA2010CB is an external inline filter fitted to the water line behind the fridge.
Knowing the families saves you buying the wrong shape.
| Filter family | Also known as | Fits | Shape |
|---|---|---|---|
| DA29-00020B | HAF-CIN | Most Samsung fridges 2012+ | Slim twist-in tube |
| DA29-00003G | HAF-CU1 | Older side-by-side, pre-2012 | Short, stubby canister |
| DA2010CB | External inline | Models with no internal housing | Inline cylinder on water pipe |
DA29-00020B and HAF-CIN are the same filter under two names, so do not buy both.
How do I match the right filter to my fridge?
Check your existing filter first. Pull it out and read the part code printed on it, then buy a filter listing that exact OEM code. If the fridge is empty of a filter, match your model number against the seller's fit list. The printed part number on the old filter is the most reliable guide.
The quickest check is the old cartridge itself. The OEM code is printed on the body, for example DA29-00020B or DA29-00003G. Match that code and you cannot go wrong. Crucially, never force a filter that does not seat smoothly. The older short DA29-00003G and the slim DA29-00020B are not interchangeable, and forcing the wrong shape can crack the internal water manifold.
How often should I change a Samsung fridge filter?
Replace a Samsung fridge water filter roughly every six months. Heavy use, a large household or hard water can shorten this to three or four months because minerals and sediment clog the filter faster. The filter indicator light is a useful prompt, but the six-month rule is a safe default.
Six months is the manufacturer guideline for most households. If you draw a lot of water or live in a hard-water area, the media exhausts sooner, so a three to four month change keeps flow and taste right. Signs you have left it too long include slower dispensing, an off taste, and ice that smells or tastes stale.
How do I reset the filter light on a Samsung fridge?
After fitting a new filter, press and hold the relevant control button for about three seconds until the light clears. The button varies by model and may be marked Ice Maker, Alarm, Water, or Energy Saver. Hold it for the full three seconds. If a child lock is active, disable that first.
The filter light is a timer, not a sensor, so it does not reset by itself. Find the multi-function button for your model. On many French door models it is the Ice Maker button; on others it is Alarm or Energy Saver. Press and hold for three full seconds until the indicator changes back to off or blue. If nothing happens, check whether the control panel child lock is engaged.
FAQs
Is the DA29-00020B the same as the HAF-CIN?
Yes. DA29-00020B and HAF-CIN are two names for the same slim twist-in Samsung filter used on most fridges from around 2012 onward. You only need to buy one.
My old filter is short and fat, which one do I need?
A short, stubby filter is the older DA29-00003G family, fitted to side-by-side models from before about 2012. Do not buy the slim DA29-00020B for these, as it will not fit correctly.
What is the DA2010CB filter?
The DA2010CB is an external inline filter fitted into the water supply pipe behind some Samsung fridges that do not have an internal filter housing. Check whether your fridge has an internal cartridge before ordering it.
Why will my Samsung filter light not turn off after a change?
The light is a timer that needs a manual reset. Press and hold the model's multi-function button, often Ice Maker or Alarm, for three full seconds. If it still will not clear, the control panel child lock may be active, so release that first.
